SOAR Experiences

Meet SOAR Experiences

SOAR Experiences provides free educational, outdoor experiences for people with limited mobility.

Utilizing advanced mobility chairs, SOAR shares nature hikes and other outdoor experiences with people who may not otherwise be physically able to participate, including those living with spinal cord injuries, cerebral palsy, amputations, stroke, COPD, and more.  We create life-changing experiences in nature by providing adaptive recreation access in outdoor spaces, promoting physical and mental well-being for people with limited mobility, their families, and communities.  We serve individuals and groups as well as partnering with universities, rehabilitation hospitals and veteran's organizations.

How SOAR
Experiences Began

In 2019, two paraplegic guests came to our off road driving school, Northeast Off Road Adventures (NORA)-hoping to learn to drive off road using temporary hand controls.  We installed them in a Jeep, and the experience was transformative.  Encouraged by their feedback, we built accessible infrastructure and launched our first Adaptive Sampler for 15 guests from Helen Hayes Hospital.  That event was featured in a Wheels2Walking video that now has over 160,000 views. This year we are offering over 29 adaptive hikes at locations throughout New York State, eastern Connecticut and will soon be expanding to New Jersey and Long Island this fall.
