Meet the Neighborhood Companions

Creating inter-generational connection and knowledge sharing through the expansion of a community garden.

Neighborhood Companions is a nonprofit serving older adults in Maryland.  In meaningful partnership with a local Girl Scout Troop, a College Sorority and community seniors, the collective of change makers, Neighborhood Companions, are serving their community by providing much needed access to local produce for food banks, while simultaneously nurturing connections and community across generations.   

This Karma Project will provide raised beds to allow the seniors easier access to the gardens, as well as necessary garden supplies and logistic support, ensuring years of intergenerational gardening and instilling a passion for serving others into the next generation.

Meet the Creator,

Arkia Wade

Arkia Wade is a community builder, nonprofit leader, and advocate for intergenerational connection who has lived in Dundalk , Maryland for over 13 years.  She is the Founder and Executive Director of Neighborhood Companions Inc., a grassroots nonprofit launched in 2022 from an “Adopt-a-Senior” initiative during the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization focuses on reducing isolation, providing transportation, and creating meaningful intergenerational connections for older adults.
