Sensory Nooks for Inclusive Classrooms

Sensory Nooks for Special Needs Children helps inclusive classrooms become a place where all students can thrive. The Do Better Initiative builds calm, supportive Sensory Nooks right inside classrooms so neurodiverse students (and every student) have a space to regulate and come back ready to learn.

Each nook typically includes a floor cushion or beanbag, a cushioned play mat flooring, a low bookshelf, sensory tools and affirming books. The Do Better Initiative also provides Sensory Regulation Kits filled with regulation tools like weighted lap pads, noise-muffling headphones, visual timers, and quiet fidgets for students who need them, working directly with teachers throughout the entire process, so they feel confident using the resources.

Meet Liliana Kubinski, Founder of The Do Better Initiative

Liliana Kubinski, is the 16-year-old founder of The Do Better Initiative. Liliana believes no one should ever feel like an afterthought, every child deserves to fully thrive, and unmet needs should never be what holds them back.

The Do Better Initiative is a youth-led nonprofit dedicated to building a world where no one feels like an afterthought. We do this through our three programs:

Create Inclusive Classrooms: Bring Sensory Nooks and regulation tools into schools and host inclusive story times.

End Period Poverty: Around the world, we provide period kits to places like shelters, soup kitchens, refugee camps, and community resource events supporting women and girls experiencing homelessness and poverty. We also share a menstrual education program so girls have the knowledge they need.

Support Foster Youth: During the holiday season we provide teens in foster care with gifts from their wishlists, such as laptops/school gear, clothes, shoes, gift cards, and essentials.
