BILINGUAL RESTORATIVE YOGA IN
A DOMESTIC VIOLENCE SAFE HOUSE
The women living in this safehouse have had to leave their lives behind to escape from family violence. Trauma has a deep and lasting impact on a survivors body and mind. Addressing the heightened "fight or flight" state of the nervous system through breathing practices, simple movements and physical relaxation can begin to shift the body into a resting state, allowing the symptoms of trauma such as insomnia, fear, rage and chronic illness, to subside. Our teacher will share bilingual restorative yoga and meditation with the women and any children that would like to join!
OUR TEACHER
ADRIANA GARCIA
"Yoga and meditation have given me courage to face the world and myself just as I am. There is access to unshakable joy when we get quiet and not define our lives by what has happened or by what we believe to be true about ourselves. Yoga has provided for me a structure for growth and forgiveness and because of this beautiful practice I have gained freedom and wellness. I am so excited to share this work through United We Om, and with people I admire and respect. "
THE SAFE CENTER
The Safe Center LI is a creation of two former non-profit agencies that separately served the victims of domestic abuse and child abuse. It was created in 2014 through the merger of the Nassau County Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CADV)and the Coalition Against Child Abuse & Neglect (CCAN). Each had been providing services for victims of abuse for over 30 years.
The merger into one unified non-profit provides a fast and easy path to resources that assist in saving and changing the lives of the victims of domestic or dating abuse, child abuse, and rape and sexual assault.
The Safe Center’s services are available for all persons regardless of race, creed, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, military status, marital status, disability, or age. They welcome everyone and work to overcome each victim’s unique barriers to safety.
