YOGA FOR ADULTS ON THE AUTISM SPECTRUM
Anxiety and overstimulation are two of the hallmarks of Autism Spectrum Disorder. With growing demand for alternative therapies to help people with ASD feel their best, Yoga is gaining traction in the scientific community for it's ability to lessen the experience of anxiety and overstimulation that is so common among children and adults on the spectrum.
Focusing on breathing, gentle movement and guided relaxation that engage the parasympathetic nervous system, specialized Yoga for Autism can help improve sleep, mood, digestion and much more. These simple breathing and movement techniques are incredibly effective and can become tools that can be incorporated into the daily lives of adults on the autism spectrum to find calm and peace.
Ora is a certified Yoga Teacher and also a yoga teacher for special needs children and adults. Mother of an autistic child, Ora is passionate to sharing her energy and knowledge of how we can all feel inner freedom through the postures of yoga, which connect body and mind.
Her Yoga journey started 9 years ago influenced by Darmah Mitra, Yoshio Hama, Cora Wen, Lisa Bondy and many hours of meditation practice. She has taught meditation workshops, yoga classes, yoga for seniors, yoga for breast cancer survivors and yoga for children and adults with autism and special needs.
THE NICHOLAS CENTER
The Nicholas Center was founded, largely due to the challenges and concerns the founders had for the young adult community. The organization is committed to being a resource to this vulnerable, and often under served population. The goals are simplistic, but very effective. The center seeks to understand and respond to the specific needs of each individual. Its main goal, is to provide daily opportunities for those who wish to lead productive and meaningful lives with maximum community participation.
