DHARMA INITIATIVES
Our newest addition to our service work, a Dharma Initiative is a program we develop working closely and deeply with United We Om teachers who have a special connection to a community that would benefit from open source materials to support their access to the healing tools of yoga, meditation and breath work.
As always, our offerings are donation based (no minimum) and we pay all of our teachers for their important work.
Donations help make sure we can continue to share the practice directly with these important communities.

A breast cancer survivor herself, Elyce has designed a program that she wishes she herself had had access to, during her diagnosis, treatment and beyond. A medical diagnosis can create feelings of fear and loneliness. Being isolated due to COVID is yet another boundary between women with a Breast Cancer diagnosis and the healing self-care tools of breath, yoga and meditation.
The series formatted in easy to navigate sections. Each section contains physical practices, breath work, meditation and conversation around simple ways to be with and move through this healing journey. Section 1: Diagnosis, including days before Procedure, Surgery or Treatment Section 2: Day of Procedure, Surgery or Treatment Section 3: Post-surgery or Treatment (First 2 weeks) Section 4: Re-Integration (after 2 weeks and beyond) The series will be offered by donation (with no minimum donation) to all who would like to integrate these powerful tools into their journey. If it is of service to someone you know, please share this with them. Our hope is that it offers these essential tools to breast cancer patients, survivors and the people that love them in an accessible and supportive way. |
M.A.S
Meditation Art and Storytelling for Seniors
created and facilitated by Tameeka Nicole and Elvira Clayton
MAS is an initiative created to bring healing and self-care to Seniors through practices of meditation, storytelling and "gathering" over zoom to create a large scale quilt. Over 9-weeks of online classes combining these practices, this initiative served a group of 25 seniors. Each participant is created a panel of the larger quilt, which was made into a display quilt by artist Elvira Clayton. The seniors' stories have also been recorded and will be played as a soundscape in the final art exhibition of the quilt. The quilt exhibition will be utilized to create space for reflection, connection and healing in the larger community and will be combined with moments of meditation, inter-generational workshops and gathering.
Tameeka Nicole and Elvira Clayton are both passionately serving the community of Bedstuy, Brookyn, especially their seniors. MAS is a culmination of their decades of experience as yoga teachers, community activists and artists. Many of the participants attend the weekly restorative chair yoga class facilitated by Tameeka Nicole and supported by United We Om. Children's Mental Health Initiativecreated and facilitated by Tamika Albertini
The pandemic has drawn the nations attention to the need for mental health support for children. This initiative will offer an 8 week series of practice customized for children ages pre-k through 3rd grade. Practice recordings and a printable lesson plan will create a curriculum that can be easily integrated into school classrooms, either with a smart board or with a teacher sharing the classes themselves.
Practice resources for self-care for teachers and caregivers will also be included in the initiative. |
