BILINGUAL YOGA FOR
PRE-K CHILDREN IN HEAD START
This project has been proudly supported by a grant from Investors Foundation.
Learning to breath, to self-calm and to have a positive connection with our bodies begins when we are children. While kids yoga is a luxury for many families, the science behind its benefits in childhood and into adulthood is clear. Language is another barrier for these children, since the majority are native Spanish speakers. Our teacher shares Biligual yoga and meditation in Spanish and English with the 3 and 4 year olds receiving free pre-k education at the Head Start in Central Islip. There are 116 children at this center in total, with the project spanning 8 classes over 2 days a week. All children are precious and are deserving of our attention and love!
Carolyn is a native Spanish speaker from Peru. She teaches Yoga and Mindfulness at a day care and is pursuing a degree in Psychology and Neuroscience. She has a special connection with children and feels we all deserve equal opportunities.
